Billie Jean Had a Girl!

Hello friends,
I was just enjoying the beautiful weather and being thankful. And then the wind brought winter back. In the creamery there are heat producing refrigerators and freezers that will keep the well-insulated building fairly warm in the winter. Unfortunately, they add quite a bit of heat when the weather is warm, and we literally had to turn on the air conditioner. The very next day, we had the heat on. Welcome to Kansas.
Billie Jean had her calf last Wednesday, or probably more accurately Tuesday night. She was obviously in the beginning stages of labor when we were milking Tuesday evening, laying down, getting up, laying down, getting up. When we got cows for morning milking, we only counted 16 when there should have been 17 and we knew we had to go find them. There they were in the lower 20, baby following momma. It’s a girl! Yeah! That evens the score to 4 males, 2 females out of the last 6 calves…..
