Lots of Wind

Monday, February 27, 2023

Hello friends,

The wind has died down and it was a beautiful day! Such dire predictions last night, and we didn’t end up getting more than a quarter inch of rain. Lots of wind though. The power was out for about 25 minutes, but the generator came on automatically! The shed in the front pasture is about the size of a detached garage. In fact that’s what we bought and then we put it on large skids so we could pull it to different locations. It was situated parallel to the driveway until this morning. The wind moved it at an angle. We are thankful that it was not flipped over! Norman the scarehawk is missing the paint pan that we attached to his “arm” to help him spin in the breeze. I guess he endured more than a breeze!

I ordered a new set of baby chicks today. We hemmed and hawed about what we wanted and I finally had a list of 35 pullet chicks picked out for production and for fun. Well, I was confronted with “sold out” and “not available until September” from both hatcheries that we usually buy from. Back to the catalog for second and third choices. Finally we were able to schedule a shipment the beginning of August that has 4 different kinds of chicks. I am happy to be on the schedule at all! The hens are getting more daylight now and I’m getting a few more eggs. Also, Jean is getting a few more as well so I also have some of her eggs in the fridge…..
